MANILA, Philippines – Heeding the call of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will be coming up with more programs to benefit the families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio said Thursday.

“Ang binilin ni Presidente, hindi lamang ang OFW ang inyong alagaan, extend this care, itong, inyong pangangalaga, sa kanilang pamilya, especially the children, so OWWA will be coming up, before the end of the year, several programs to take care of the children of our OFWs”, said Ignacio in an interview with ANC.

(The President asked that we don’t just take care of OFWs; we should extend our care to their families, especially the children, so OWWA will be coming up, before the end of the year, several programs to take care of the children of our OFWs).

“Magkakaroon tayo ng malawakang mga activities na ibibigay namin sa mga anak ng OFWs pagdating sa arts and culture, sports, pagmamanage ng pera,” he added.

(We will have a wide set of activities to give the children of OWFs when it comes to arts and culture, sports, financial management).

Ignacio however, said the OWWA already has existing programs for children of OFWs.

“We have scholarships even for those earning $600 and below. We can support you with P20,000 a year sa scholarship ng inyong anak. Yung EDSP (Development Scholarship Program) namin ay P60,000 a year,” said Ignacio.

The EDSP is OWWA’s scholarship grant for qualified OFW dependents.

Ignacio added that the OFW Children’s Circle is among the OWWA’s ongoing projects to assist children of Filipino workers who are working abroad. The program aims to provide children of OFWs with coping mechanisms.
