MANILA, Philippines — No Filipino has been affected by the worst downpour in decades in Seoul and its nearby areas in South Korea, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday evening.
“As of now, no reported Filipino affected by the floods in Central Seoul and surrounding areas like Incheon and Gyeonggi,” DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza told reporters in a message.
Monitoring and communication with Filipinos, conducted by the Philippine Embassy in Korea, are underway.
“The Embassy continues to monitor and reach out to the Filipino community during this record rainfall, the first in 80 years for Korea,” Daza said.
According to authorities, at least seven people have been killed after the torrential rain.
Some 1,000 vehicles, meanwhile, were destroyed by the heavy rainfall.
The Korea Meteorological Administration noted that the southern part of Seoul got over 3.9 inches of rain per hour late Monday, some parts of the city even received more.
As of Tuesday, 5 a.m., the accumulated rainfall in Seoul was 420 millimeters since Monday midnight.
