MANILA, Philippines — The Indonesian government awarded Medali Perdamaian, or the Medal of Peace, to former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and retired Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Cirilito Sobejana for their help in rescuing Indonesians in 2019 and 2020.

Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines Agus Widjojo presented the medals in a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Makati City on Wednesday, August 3.

Around 50 Philippine security forces were also bestowed the Medali Dharma Pertahanan (Medal of Dharma Defense) by Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto for their help in the rescue of the three Indonesian fisherfolk who were abducted by the Abu Sayyaf in 2019 and 2020. —DEXTER CABALZA
