MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines and the United States will continue their cooperation in setting up resilient supply chains and addressing the climate crisis.

Department of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo said this agreement was reached after his discussion with his United States (US) counterpart, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on bilateral matters.

“Spoke [with Secretary Blinken]. Appreciate US commitment to alliance and to PH as equal and sovereign partner in promoting peace, prosperity & international law-based order in the region,” Manalo posted on social media site Twitter on Sunday.

“[Secretary Blinken] and I agreed to continue working together on building resilient supply chains, addressing the climate crisis and transitioning to clean energy,” he added.

Last week, the US pledged to “stand united” with the Philippines on multiple fronts, especially under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Chargé d’Affaires Heather Variava emphasized the US’ commitment to continue strengthening ties with the Philippines by “working closely” with the current administration.

The Philippines has benefited from the millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine that the US has donated.

The country’s biggest military and economic ally likewise extended help when the country was ravaged by Typhoon Odette last year.
