Cardinal Rosales sees lesson for Filipinos in execution of drug trafficker

MANILA, Philippines—Outgoing Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales said Thursday that the people should learn from the fate of the 35-year old Filipino executed in China for drug trafficking.

Rosales said people should always follow the law so that they and their families would not be placed in a sad state. He also said that all members of society should preach and ensure compliance with the laws at all time.

“Every time this happens we always fall on our knees [to be beg for mercy], but we don’t prepare the people to be good. We Filipinos, we should learn. Here in the country, we should prepare our countrymen that they should not leave like that. We should train them with compliance to law, goodness, truth and obedience,” he said.

Rosales stressed the importance of the role of the family in terms of guiding their children to follow the rules and shun illegal activities.
