MANILA, Philippines — China’s second-highest official will attend the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on June 30 as a “special representative,” the Chinese Embassy in Manila said Tuesday.

Citing information from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the embassy said Chinese President Xi Jinping is sending his vice president, Wang Qishan, to the event.

“As the special representative for President Xi Jinping, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan will attend the inauguration ceremony for the Philippines’ president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr on June 30: Chinese Foreign Ministry,” the embassy said in a message to reporters.

Foreign delegations are expected to attend Marcos’ inauguration at the National Museum in Manila.

Among them include United States Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, who was designated to lead Washington’s delegation.
