MANILA, Philippines — Pope Francis has appointed Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle as one of the new members of Vatican City’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of Sacraments.
The Vatican on Wednesday announced that Tagle is now among the 22 new members of the congregation currently headed by Cardinal-designate Arthur Roche.
Tagle is the second current Filipino member of the dicastery, the other being Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao, who was reappointed by Pope Francis last March, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines news agency reported.
The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of Sacraments is in charge of overseeing most of the global Catholic Church’s liturgical concerns.
Tagle is also the current prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
