MANILA, Philippines—The United States Senate on Friday (Manila time) named career diplomat MaryKay Carlson as Washington’s newest ambassador to the Philippines.
Carlson’s appointment was confirmed through a voice vote, according to official US records.
This, after US President Joe Biden’s nomination of Carlson for the post in February.
Prior to the nomination, Carlson previously worked as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
She has been a foreign service officer since 1985, according to Carlson’s certificate of competency posted on the US Senate’s website.
“Carlson has devoted much of her career, spanning over 36 years, to the East Asia region,” her Carlson’s certificate of competency read.
“This extensive and substantive regional experience, coupled with her management experience and demonstrated ability to lead large interagency teams as well as policy-oriented offices, makes her a well-qualified candidate to be the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines,” the document furthered.
