Norway envoy visits PH military chief

MANILA, Philippines—Norwegian ambassador Bjørn Staurset Jahnsen paid a courtesy call on Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Jose Faustino Jr. this week.

The meeting at the AFP general headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo was part of efforts to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the Philippines and the Kingdom of Norway, the AFP said.

Norway established diplomatic relations with the Philippines in 1948.

The two countries have been fully committed to maritime cooperation over the years, the AFP said.

The Philippines and Norway have no military cooperation. But Norway has been supporting the country’s peace-building efforts.

Norway is the third-party facilitator of peace talks between the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. It is also taking part in the International Monitoring Team in Mindanao, which oversees the implementation of the peace process between the Philippine government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
