MANILA, Philippines—The US Indo-Pacific Command on Tuesday (Oct. 19) donated intensive care unit beds and coronavirus vaccine cold storage to the Palawan provincial government.

The donation, part of a larger donation of the US to the Department of Health, was at the request of the Palawan provincial government in response to an ongoing surge of COVID cases, the US Embassy in Manila said.

The Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Gabriela Silang transported the donations to Puerto Princesa City.

“The ICU beds will provide additional capacity to Palawan’s COVID-19 care facilities, while the vaccine cold storage units will serve as a critical element in transporting and storing COVID-19 vaccines in support of the Philippines’ ongoing vaccination efforts,” the embassy said.

The donations cost around P750,000.

The US has provided more than P1.9 billion in assistance to support the Philippines’ COVID-19 response.
