Increased exports to Canada expected with free trade
Manila 14 September 2021 — The Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham) has announced it will be hosting it’s annual business forum on Opportunities for Philippine Exports to Canada on Thursday, 30 September 2021 starting at 8:30 am Philippine Standard Time and 8:30 pm in Canada Eastern Daylight Time.
The theme of this year’s event is Plan to Increase exports to Canada: What you need to know.
In announcing the event the President of CanCham, Mr. Julian Payne, said “Demand by Canada for imports is growing including for the type of products that the Philippines exports such as agri-food products and electronics to name two examples. As the two countries recover from downturns due the the pandemic, there will be opportunities for increased Philippine exports to Canada. When a free trade arrangement is entered into by the Philippines that also includes Canada, Philippine exports will become more competitive with those from other countries already in free trade agreement that covers Canada such as the Comprehensive Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).”
The business forum will start with Greetings from Canada and Opening Remaks on “Increased opportunities with a Free Trade Agreement” by senior diplomats from both the Philippines and Canada, followed by presentations on:
- Demand in Canada for imports: what products top the list?
- Canadian regulations for imports: What are these and how to find out.
- Trade financing for exports: how and where to access.
- How to manage the logistics: challenge that can be overcome.
- Support services to help you export: from DTI and its offices in Canada.
- Support services to help you export: from the Canadian Embassy in Manila and in Canada.
- Success stories of two companies exporting agri-food and electronics products to Canada.
In outlining the program, Mr Payne said CanCham’s objective with this business forum is to increase awareness of what the demand is in Canada for various categories of products to to provide answers to questions about Canadian regulations for imports, trade financing and logistics. At this forum potential exporters will be able to hear from experts on the various critical matters that exporters should know to be successful. CanCham expects the forum will of particular practical value for potential first time exporters including SMEs.”
