MANILA, Philippines — China has pledged to donate more COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines amid the increasing demand due to the race to population protection, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian said Thursday.

“We will donate more and substantiably increase supply of vaccines to the Philippines,” he said in a speech during the inauguration of the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge.

He did not specify the number of vaccine doses that China will donate to the Philippines.

Huang touted China’s friendship with the Philippines, especially its help in the fight against the pandemic.

He said China has donated test kits, personal protective equipment, and dispatched a medical experts team to the Philippines to help battle the severe respiratory disease.

So far, the Chinese government has donated one million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Sinovac’s BioTech, this is apart from the 1,000 doses from Chinese firm Sinopharm.
