MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Wednesday 226 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos living overseas.
Based on the latest figures of DFA, the new infections pushed the total number of Filipinos abroad who contracted the new coronavirus disease to 20,661.
“The reported spike is due to [a] surge in COVID-19 cases reported in one country in the Middle East,” DFA noted.
The government agency also logged 120 new recoveries as well as seven new fatalities, increasing the death count to 1,227.
The number of COVID-19 stricken Filipinos abroad who have recovered or have been discharged from the hospital now stands at 12,221 while 7,213 remain under treatment.
In the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,353 new cases on Wednesday. The country’s tally is now more than 1.29 million, including 49,862 active cases.
The DOH also reported the death of 119 more as well as the recovery of 7,139 others.
