MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported 102 additional COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad on Friday.
The new infections recorded by the DFA pushed the total number of overseas Filipino who contracted the disease to 19,876.
“The spike in the number of cases is due to an increase in reported cases from a country in the Middle East,” the department said.
The DFA also reported nine new recoveries. In total, 12,053 Filipinos abroad have recovered from the virus, while 6,629 continue to undergo treatment.
The death toll stays at 1,944, with the DFA recording no new fatalities.
In the Philippines, the Department of Health reported an additional 7,450 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday.
The country’s total case count now stands at 1,255,337 cases, 60,794 of which are active. Meanwhile, 21,537 have died from the disease, including 181 new fatalities.
