Consultants from Singapore’s top rated airport here for Naia1 makeover
A team of consultants from one of the world’s best airports arrived in the country over the weekend to assess the condition and problems besetting the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia)—recently judged in an Internet poll as the worst airport in the world.
According to Jose Angel Honrado, Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) general manager, the six-member team from Singapore Changi Airport, that arrived Sunday night, already conducted an initial inspection of all the key facilities and areas in the terminal.
The team, composed of technical experts in airport passenger and cargo flow systems as well as terminal design, was invited by the Department of Transportation and Communications.
“We recognize Changi Airport’s international reputation as the number one airport in the world,” said Transportation Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II. “This gives us confidence that cooperating with Changi Airport will reap positive results, particularly in line with our goal of delivering an efficient, distinctively Filipino, and customer-friendly airport for all travelers who will use Naia-terminal 1 in the near future,” Roxas added.
