DFA says COVID-19 kills another Filipino abroad, infects 24 more

MANILA, Philippines — Another Filipino staying overseas has died due to COVID-19, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday, adding that 24 more Filipinos contracted the virus abroad.

According to its latest bulletin, the new coronavirus disease death toll among Filipino communities overseas is now at 1,161 while the total case count reached 18,569 as of May 11, including 6,026  active cases.

The DFA likewise reported the recovery of 17 patients, driving the tally of those who recovered from the severe respiratory ailment to 11,366.

COVID-positive Filipinos are found in 94 countries around the globe, the DFA noted, specifically, 10,465 in the Middle East and Africa; 3,732 in the Asia-Pacific region; 3,389 in Europe; and 983 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) said the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections is now at 1,113,547 as of May 11. This includes 1,038,175 recovered patients and 18,620 fatalities.

Active cases, on the other hand, are at 56,752 as of Tuesday.
