DFA: 4 Filipinos abroad die, 31 more sickened due to COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Four Filipinos abroad have died due to COVID-19, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday, adding that 31 more contracted the new coronavirus disease in various areas overseas.

As of April 28, a total of 18,301 Filipinos living abroad were infected with the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, based on DFA’s latest report. This number includes 5,936 active cases as well as 11,220 recovered patients and 1,145 fatalities.

DFA said COVID-positive Filipinos are found in 94 countries around the globe, explaining that 10,443 of the sum cases are in the Middle East and Africa, 3,546 are in the Asia-Pacific region, 3,355 in Europe, and 957 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections reached 1,020,495 on Wednesday, according to the Department of Health (DOH), which data likewise covers 935,695 recovered patients and 17,031 deaths. DOH said active cases as of April 28 were at 67,769.
