COVID-19 infects 146 more Filipinos abroad, says DFA

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday reported 146 additional COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad.

According to DFA figures, the new infections pushed the total of overseas Filipinos who contracted COVID-19 to 16,569.

The DFA also said it recorded nine additional fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,058.

Of the total number of cases, 5,446 patients are still undergoing treatment while 10,065 have already recovered, including seven new recoveries, it added.

“To date, the total number of countries and territories with confirmed cases among Filipinos abroad is now at 91, following new reports received from a country in Asia and the Pacific,” the DFA said.

In the Philippines, 8,355 new infections were reported on Monday, April 5, driving the nationwide tally to 803,398, including 143,726 are active cases.

Globally, over 126.8 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, while over 2.77 million have died from the disease.
