MANILA, Philippines — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Sunday chided the United Nations which he said misinterpreted the Philippines’ remark on the resolution calling for the restoration of democracy in Myanmar where their elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi was recently ousted and jailed.

@UNGeneva deliberately misinterpreted the Philippine statement calling for “a complete restoration of the status quo ANTE with Suu Kyi back in her former power and influence, the Army in its protective role, the people enjoying again the measure of freedom she achieved. Won’t bow to the hypocrites,” said Locsin in a social media post.

@UNGeneva. Prepare evac of as many Filipinos as wish to get out of harm’s way and of the PE embassy of course. I won’t have the Geneva hypocrites dictate on our ‘nuanced’ approach to work for the possible rather than the self-satisfying impossibility of whites,” he added.

On Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) released a statement that it dissociated itself from the UN resolution calling for freedom of Suu Kyi as well as protection of Myanmar locals who are protesting against the military coup in their country.

In another tweet on Saturday night, Locsin also chided the UN, saying he doesn’t want Suu Kyi to be the “object of Western pity.”

“I don’t want her just free to make the whites feel good she’s out and useless except as an object of Western pity; but free and back in the position of power and influence taken from her and her party which swept the elections; the position the West first stripped her of,” he wrote.

Earlier this month, state forces in Myanmar took over the government and detained Suu Kyi and President Win Myint.

Thousands took part in protest actions demanding the release of their elected officials.
