INQUIRER.net, the online arm of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, has been chosen as one of 10 recipients of the 2011 Torch Bearer Award for its pioneering role in online media, the Philippine American Press Club (PAPC) said.
Now in its second year, the Torch Bearer Awards, given out by the US-based PAPC, recognizes this year 10 “media and community trailblazers.”
The award commends INQUIRER.net, which debuted on the Web in 1997, “for bearing the torch of the Filipino ideal and keeping it aflame through the winds of change and the passage of time in your organization’s work as journalists and community leader.”
Other “media and community trailblazers” who will be recognized at the Torch Bearer Awards Night on December 2 include Alex Esclamado of the Philippine News (50 years in print); Julie and Joselito de Joya for television (1980s); Joseling Santisteban for television (1980s); Ness Ocampo for radio (40 years running); Mona Lisa Yuchengco for National Glossy Magazine, founder Filipinas Magazine (founded 1992); Peachy Pelaez for Community Events (1970s); and Jossie and Mark Alegre, who have been PAPC board members since 1991.
The awards will be presented at HanaZen, Pier 39, in San Francisco, California.
