DFA reports 322 new Covid-19 cases among Filipinos abroad

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday reported 322 new confirmed Covid-19 cases among overseas Filipinos.

According to DFA figures, the additional cases pushed the total number of Covid-19 infections among Filipinos abroad to 13,378.

“The reported spike is due to another surge in Covid-19 cases in one country in Europe,” the agency said, without disclosing which country reported the increase.

Of the total number of cases, 3,858 patients are still undergoing treatment, while the number of those who have recovered increased to 8,585, with the DFA recording 97 new recoveries.

No new fatality has been reported by the DFA. The number of death remains at 935.

“The DFA, together with its foreign service posts, remains fully committed to monitoring and assisting our nationals abroad amidst this ongoing battle against the COVID-19 pandemic,” the DFA said.

On Wednesday, the Philippines recorded 1,453 new Covid-19 infections, which brought the country’s total to 492,700.

Globally, over 85.9 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 1.8 million have died from the disease across the world.
