COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad near 12,900 with 15 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos neared the 12,900-mark after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported 15 new infections on Saturday.

According to DFA figures, the COVID-19 tally among Filipinos abroad now stands at 12,891 cases.

Of this number, 3,593 overseas Filipinos are still undergoing treatment while 8,387 have recovered. A total of 911 have succumbed to the disease.

The DFA said it recorded no new recovery or deaths on Saturday.

Compared to last week’s figures, the DFA said the total number of recoveries among overseas Filipino COVID-19 patients saw a slight increase to 65.06 percent of the total number of cases, a slight decrease in fatalities to 7.07 percent, while those under treatment remained at 27.87 percent.

In the Philippines, the Department of Health has so far reported over 476,000 COVID-19 cases, with over 439,900 recoveries. The disease has killed more than 9,200 in the country.

Globally, over 71 million individuals have so far contracted COVID-19, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 1.6 million have died from the disease across the world.
