DFA: 3 more Filipinos abroad contract COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Tuesday three new cases of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad.

According to DFA, the latest recorded infections increased the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos overseas to 11,695.

Of this number, DFA said 3,270 are undergoing treatment, 7,578 have recovered or have been discharged, and 847 have died.

As per different regions, 7,544 COVID-19-infected Filipinos are in the Middle East and Africa; 1,968 are in the Asia Pacific region; 1,414 are in Europe; and 769 are in the Americas.

“To date, the Middle East and Africa remains to be the region with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, recoveries, under treatment, and fatalities among our nationals,” DFA said.

“The Americas has the least numbers in all categories compared to other geographic regions, except in the total number of deaths, wherein Asia and the Pacific ranks lowest with a total of only 9,” it added.

In the Philippines, COVID-19 cases surpassed 442,000 as of Tuesday, December 8.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the total COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 442,785—of which 25,325 remain active.

DOH added that 139 new recoveries pushed the sum of recovered patients to408,790 while the death of 98 more brought the death toll to 8,670.
