MANILA, Philippines—A benefit concert on Dec. 12 seeks to raise funds for civilians and troops in the West Philippine Sea.
The National Youth Movement for the West Philippine Sea (NYMPS) partnered with OPM singer Jun Polistico, an Aliw Award Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, to serenade an online audience here and abroad, said Dr. Celia Lamkin, founder of NYMPS, a nongovernment group advocating Philippine sovereignty.
Proceeds of the concert will go to fishermen, residents of Pag-asa island in Kalayaan Island Group, Pag-asa Health Center and troops manning the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea, Lamkin told Inquirer.net. A series of gift-giving activities will take place a few days before Christmas.
Lamkin said NYMPS has been conducting gift-giving activities for people in the West Philippine Sea since 2015, but it’s the first time that she thought of putting up a benefit concert. Because of the pandemic, it will be held online.
