The Department of National Defense (DND) will come up with a list of the military hardware that it wants to acquire from South Korea.
During the visit of South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on Monday, President Benigno Aquino III said the Philippines was interested to acquire military-grade helicopters, boats and other aircraft from South Korea to boost the military.
Since he assumed office last year, Mr. Aquino has begun upgrading the military which only has old warships and warplanes to secure the Malampaya oil platforms off Palawan and the country’s territorial claims in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea).
Defense spokesperson Zosimo Paredes said the DND is still preparing the list. But he said he did not know how the acquisition would be made. Dona Z. Pazzibugan
