PH recalls envoy to Brazil
The Philippines has recalled its ambassador to Brazil for allegedly maltreating her household service worker, according to Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.
“The Philippine ambassador to Brazil has been recalled effective immediately to explain the maltreatment of her service staff,” Locsin said in a post on Twitter on Monday.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it had instructed Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro to return home immediately following the release of video footages showing her berating and maltreating her household staff.
The DFA was apparently referring to a video footage shown by Brazilian news outlet GloboNews where Mauro appeared to be physically abusing her household help multiple times on different occasions inside the diplomat’s residence.
The incidents appeared to be captured by a closed-circuit television camera. INQ
