MANILA, Philippines — Trying his hand at singing in Tagalog, British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce reminded the public to keep their hands clean, especially now that hand washing plays a vital role in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
In a video posted by the British Embassy in Manila, Pruce demonstrated the proper hand washing in celebration of the Global Handwashing Day.
“Washing your hands is always an important thing to do. But at the moment it’s a really important way that we can combat the coronavirus pandemic It’s a straightforward process which is familiar to all of us,” he said.
“A key thing is to wash your hands for a good 20 seconds and to do so thoroughly. In the UK we do this by singing ‘Happy birthday’ twice over. As I’m talking to you from the Philippines, I’ll have a go at doing that in Tagalog but please bear with me,” he added.
He went on to sing the Tagalog version of the birthday song twice as he washed his hands.

“I don’t think I’ll be dueting with Lea Salonga anytime soon but at least I now have my nice, clean hands,” he said afterwards.
To end his video, he reminded the public to frequently wash hands as part of the fight against COVID-19.
“It’s something that we can all do to help combat the coronavirus,” he said.
To date, the Philippines has recorded a total of 346,536 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 293,860 recoveries and 6,449 deaths.
