MANILA, Philippines — Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. is in Beijing, China, this weekend to hold bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), in a statement on Friday, said Locsin’s visit to China is his first official trip overseas since February. Locsin and Wang were expected to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss “the advancement of Philippines-China cooperation and the revitalization of engagement across various fronts, under the ‘new normal,’” the DFA said.
Both ministers would also discuss “regional and global topics of mutual interest.” It was Wang who invited Locsin, according to the DFA. — Jerome Aning
