New Vatican ambassador to PH named

MANILA, Philippines—Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Charles John Brown as the new Apostolic Nuncio, or the Vatican’s ambassador, to the Philippines.

Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP vice president and Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David said Brown’s appointment was made public in Rome on Monday (Sept. 28).

“The Diocese of Caloocan welcomes the appointment of the new Nuncio to the Philippines,” David said in a post on his Facebook page.

Prior to his new appointment, the 60-year-old Brown has been serving as the Vatican ambassador to Albania.

Brown was born in New York on Oct. 13, 1959 and ordained priest in on May 13, 1989.

From 1994, he was an official of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith in the Vatican.

Consecrated archbishop on Jan. 6, 2012, Brown was appointed apostolic nuncio to Ireland on Nov. 26, 2011 and to Albania on March 9, 2017.

Brown succeeds former papal nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, who is now the permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations in New York.
