DFA: Over 10,400 Filipinos abroad contract COVID-19; death toll now at 791

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Sunday five new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total number of infections to 10,438.

The DFA said that of the total cases, 2,993 are undergoing treatment, 6,554 have recovered, or have been discharged, while 791 have died.

Of the infected Filipinos abroad, 7,079  are in the Middle East and Africa; 1,372 are in the Asia Pacific region; 1,170 are in Europe, and 808 are in the Americas.

“The DFA remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos who are affected by the pandemic and remains steadfast in promoting and protecting their welfare,” the DFA said.

As of September 27, there are 304,226 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, of which 46,372 are considered active cases. Recoveries are at 252,510 while the death toll is at 5,344.
