COVID-19 hits 16 more Filipinos abroad; 13 others recover — DFA

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday reported 16 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases among Filipinos abroad.

These additional infections pushed the total number of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos to 10,339, according to data from the DFA.

The DFA also said that 13 more Filipinos abroad have recovered from the disease, which brings the total number of recoveries to 6,581.

Meanwhile, 2,985 overseas Filipinos remain under treatment while the death toll stands at 773.

“To date, the total number of countries and regions with confirmed cases among overseas Filipinos is now at 77, with a new report from an additional country in Africa,” the DFA said.

In the Philippines, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 269,407 on Wednesday after 3,550 additional infections were recorded.

Of the number, 207,858 have recovered while 4,732 have died.

Globally, over 28.9 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 922,000 have died from the disease across the world.
