MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipinos were killed in the gas explosion that ripped through a restaurant in Abu Dhabi earlier this week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Tuesday.
“It is with deep sadness that the Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, shares the latest information that two Filipinos died from the unfortunate accident yesterday caused by a gas explosion at a restaurant at Sheikh Rashid Bin Seed Road, (also known as Airport Road) in Abu Dhabi, as reported by UAE authorities,” the DFA said in a statement.
The Philippines embassy there has already reached out to the families of the Filipino fatalities and assured them that will get all necessary assistance.
The embassy is also coordinating with local authorities to obtain details about some Filipinos who suffered minor injuries in the blast and were brought to the hospital so that they could be given appropriate support, the DFA added.
Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn Quintana, meanwhile, advised Filipinos in Abu Dhabi to “remain safe and to be mindful of security and safety protocols of the host government.”
