COVID-19 infects 39 more Filipinos abroad; 23 new recoveries reported

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases among overseas Filipinos has reached 9,754 after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported 39 new infections on Sunday.

According to the DFA, 23 new recoveries were recorded in the Americas and Middle East/Africa region, bringing the total of recovered patients to 5,783.

Meanwhile, 3,263 are still undergoing treatment.

No new fatalities have been reported, the DFA added. The death toll stands at 708.

In the Philippines, the COVID-19 caseload neared the 130,000-mark with 3,109 additional infections.

Of the number,  67,117 have already recovered from the respiratory disease while 2,209 have died.

Globally, over 18.9 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 709,000 have died from the disease across the world.
