65 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, 7 more deaths reported – DFA

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday reported 65 new coronavirus infections among overseas Filipinos, bringing the total number of cases to 9,692.

Figures released by the DFA showed that of the total number of cases, 3,253 patients remain under treatment while 5,737 have already recovered or discharged from the hospital.

The DFA also reported seven new fatalities. The death toll now stands at 702.

“The total number of countries and regions with confirmed cases among Filipinos is 72, with a new report from an additional country in Asia and the Pacific,” the DFA added.

On August 6, confirmed cases in the Philippines reached 119,460 with 3,561 new infections.

Of the number, 66,837 have recovered while 1,962 have died, according to health officials.

Globally, over 18.3 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 696,000 have died from the disease across the world. [ac]
