MANILA, Philippines — Some 78 Filipinos in South Korea contracted COVID-19, but nearly half of them have already recovered, Chargè d’Affaires Christian de Jesus said Wednesday.
“Para po sa ating mga kababayan dito sa South Korea, ang naitala po ng Philippine Embassy na bilang ng nag-positive po sa COVID-19, ang bilang po ay 78,” De Jesus said in a televised briefing.
(For our countrymen here in South Korea, the Philippine Embassy has recorded 78 Filipinos positive for COVID-19.)
“Nais ko pong i-share din na out of the 78 Filipinos na positive, 34 po ay na-discharge na at 44 naman ang under treatment,” he further said, adding that most of the infected Filipinos are mild cases.
(I also want to share that out of the 78 Filipinos positive, 34 have already been discharged and 44 are still undergoing treatment.)
De Jesus said South Korea, which once became the second country most hit by COVID-19, has eased restrictions with the government set to allow church gatherings and sporting activities.
“Unang una po ay may improvement po ang sitwasyon dito. Katunayan nga, itong darating na Biyernes, unti unting bubuksan ng pamahalaan dito sa Korea ang pagtitipon sa simbahan at sporting events,” De Jesus said.
(There are improvements in the situation here. In fact, this coming Friday, the government here in Korea will gradually reopen church gatherings and sporting events.)
“Unti unti po itong niluluwagan. Pero sinusunod pa rin ang mga pag-iingat. Ang social distancing at ang pagsusuot ng masks,” he went on.
(It is gradually being eased. But safety protocols are still being followed like social distancing and wearing of masks.)
South Korea has so far recorded at least 14,000 COVID-19 cases, about 13,000 of which have already recovered and 300 died.
