Overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19 now 9,300

MANILA, Philippines — The number of overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19 has surpassed the 9,300-mark after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported 24 new infections on Monday.

The total number of cases came from 70 countries or regions with 3,231 undergoing treatment; 5,420 recoveries, and 653 deaths.

The DFA said the new COVID-19 cases of Filipinos abroad came from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Meanwhile, 10 new recoveries with no fatalities were recorded among Filipinos in the Americas since Sunday.

Last Monday, the DFA reported that Filipino COVID-19 cases abroad breached 9,100-mark.

In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases reached 80,448 on Sunday afternoon with recoveries of 26,110 and deaths of 1,932.

Globally, over 15.7 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 640,000 have died from the disease across the world. (Jim Mendoza, Trainee)
