111 Pinoy seafarers stranded off China

A total of 111 Filipino crew members of Chinese fishing vessels stranded off Fujian, China, for months finally arrived in the Philippines on Thursday.

The seafarers were brought to Manila on board the ship Star Mariner, along with the remains of two seafarers who died at sea.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said 101 of the seafarers came from nine Chinese fishing vessels that were forced to anchor in the high seas due to the global COVID-19 travel lockdown.

The Star Mariner left Fujian on July 11 with 101 Filipinos, and picked up 10 more and the remains of two others from another ship in the Indian Ocean. —Dona Z. Pazzibugan
