MANILA, Philippines — The number of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos surpassed 8,900 after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced 43 new infections on Wednesday.
The DFA also reported no new fatalities for two straight days. The death toll still stands at 618.
Of the 8,915 COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, DFA figures showed that 2,986 are still undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, 5,311 have already recovered from the disease, including 34 new recoveries in Asia and the Pacific region and Europe.
In the Philippines, health officials have so far recorded 57,545 COVID-19 cases, including 1,603 fatalities and 20,459 recoveries.
Globally, over 12.7 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 566,000 have died from the disease across the world.
