MANILA, Philippines — Sixty-six Filipinos were awarded Erasmus+ scholarships by the European Union (EU), which will give them opportunities to pursue higher education abroad.
According to the EU, the Erasmus+ scholarship will enable students to pursue MA and Ph.D. programs in different universities across the European continent.
In a statement, the EU Delegation to the Philippines said that this year’s send-off ceremony for the students, which took place on Tuesday, was the first time it was conducted online due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
During the send-off, the EU Delegation to the Philippines Chargé d’Affaires Thomas Wiersing told the students to “become ambassadors of goodwill and agents of change to help strengthen the partnership between the EU and the Philippines.”
Wiersing also encouraged Erasmus+ scholars to give back to their country after they have finished their program in the EU.
The Philippines has repeatedly ranked as one of the countries having the highest number of Erasmus+ scholars in Asia and in the world, Wiersing said during the virtual send-off.
