COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos near 8,800 with 30 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The Department Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday reported 30 new coronavirus infections among overseas Filipinos, bringing the total number of cases to 8,792.

Data released by the DFA showed that of the total COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, 2,946 remain under treatment.

Meanwhile, 5,254 have recovered from the disease, including 17 new recoveries in Asia and the Pacific region, Europe and Africa.

The DFA also reported two new fatalities in Africa, which brought the death toll to 592.

In the Philippines, there have so far been 51,754 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Over 12,800 have already recovered while 1,314 have died.

The new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year, has so far infected 11.6 million worldwide. Of the number, nearly 540,000 have died from the disease.
