Remains of 44 OFWs from Saudi to arrive Friday
MANILA, Philippines — The remains of 44 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), including 19 who died from COVID-19, will arrive from Saudi Arabia on Friday morning, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said on Wednesday.
The grim homecoming comes nearly a week after the government missed its July 4 target of bringing the deceased home due to logistical challenges.
Saudi Arabia had set a 72-hour deadline for the Philippine government to repatriate 301 OFWs who died in the Gulf state. The remains of another 44 OFWs, also from Saudi, are scheduled to arrive on Monday.
