MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday reported nine new coronavirus infections among overseas Filipinos, bringing the total number of cases to 8,688.
Of the number, DFA figures showed that 2,893 patients remain under treatment while 5,218 have already recovered or been discharged from the hospital, including 17 new recoveries in Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.
No new fatalities were reported, according to the DFA.
“This is the third consecutive day where no new reports were received from the Americas,” the DFA also said.
In the Philippines, health authorities have so far confirmed 47,873 COVID-19 cases. Of the number 12,386 have recovered while 1,309 have succumbed to the disease.
Globally, the number of individuals infected with the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year, surpassed 11.3 million. Over 532,000 have died from the disease across the world. [ac]
