50 more Filipinos abroad contract coronavirus; total now at 8,679
MANILA, Philippines — Fifty more Filipinos abroad have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the total to 8,679, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Sunday.
Of the number, 2,901 are undergoing treatment while 5,201 have already recovered.
The DFA also recorded 14 new fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 577.
“Weekend reports from PH Embassies and Consulates confirm 50 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos in Europe and the Middle East, 1 new recovery, and 14 new fatalities in Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East,” the agency said in a Twitter post.
Globally, the number of individuals infected with COVID-19, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year, has surpassed 11.2 million. Over 531,000 have died from the disease across the world.
