2 more infections raise total COVID-19 positive Filipinos abroad to 8,629

MANILA, Philippines — Two more Filipinos overseas have contracted COVID-19, a respiratory ailment caused by SARS-CoV-2, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) disclosed Saturday.

For this, the total number of Filipinos abroad infected by the disease already reached 8,629, DFA added.

Of the sum, 2,866 patients are in health centers and hospitals undergoing treatment, the agency explained.

DFA through its foreign posts also reported two new deaths from the Middle East, increasing total fatalities among COVID-19 positive Filipinos abroad to 563.

On the other hand, an additional 37 overseas Filipinos were able to recover from the contagious illness, according to DFA, raising the death toll to 5,200.

Worldwide, COVID-19 has hit over 11.9 million people and killed more than 525,000 while at least 5.8 million recovered.
