DFA: 13 more Filipinos abroad contract COVID-19; count now at 8,627

MANILA, Philippines — Thirteen more overseas Filipinos have tested positive for the new coronavirus, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Friday.

Data released by DFA showed that the new cases brought the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad to 8,627.

According to DFA, some 2,903 patients remain under treatment while 5,163 have already recovered from the disease.

The death toll, meanwhile, remains at 561 as of July 3.

“To date, the Middle East remains to be the region with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, recoveries, under treatment, and fatalities among our nationals,” DFA said. “While Asia and the Pacific has the least numbers in all categories except total number of recoveries where the Americas rank lowest with only 375 recoveries.”

As of July 2, the Philippines has confirmed 38,805 COVID-19 cases. Of the number, 10,673 patients have recovered while 1,274 have died.

Globally, the number of individuals infected with the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year, surpassed 10.3 million. Over 500,000 have died from the disease across the world.
