DFA: COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos now at 8,506 with 32 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases among Filipinos abroad has climbed to 8,506 after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported 32 new infections.

Data released by the DFA showed that the new confirmed cases were reported in the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific, and in Europe.

Of the 8,506 COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos, the DFA said 2,821 remain under treatment while 5,131 have recovered from the disease. This figure includes 30 new recoveries.

Meanwhile, the DFA recorded five new deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 554.

“To date, the total number of Filipinos abroad who are under treatment and those who have recovered remains at 33% and 60% of the total confirmed cases, respectively. While total deaths is at 6.5%,” according to the DFA.

As of June 30, Philippine health officials have confirmed 37,514 COVID-19 cases in the country. Of the number, 10,233 have recovered while 1,266 have died from the disease.

Globally, over 10 million individuals have so far been infected by the coronavirus disease, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. Close to 500,000 have died from the disease across the world.
