“The 76% and 35% increases in the new confirmed cases and new recoveries, respectively, are due to accumulated late reports from some countries in the Middle East observing strict confidentiality and privacy laws,” the DFA said.

“It is worth noting, however, that the share of total deaths against the total confirmed cases decreased to 6% compared to last week’s figures at 7.7%,” it added.

In the Philippines, health officials have confirmed over 30,000 COVID-19 cases. Of the number, 7,893 have recovered while 1,169 have died.

Globally, over 8.7 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 461,000 have died from the disease across the world.
