COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad soar to 6,140

MANILA, Philippines — The new coronavirus disease has infected 6,140  Filipinos overseas as 12 new COVID-19 cases were recorded, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.

Of the 6,140 positive cases, 2,794 are undertaking treatment in hospitals and health centers.

DFA said the number of deaths due to COVID-19 among Filipinos abroad rose to 495 with 12 additional fatalities from the Middle East.

The foreign affairs department also recorded three more recoveries from the United States and Asia and the Pacific, bringing the total recoveries among Filipinos overseas to 2,851.

DFA, meanwhile, vowed that it would continue to monitor the status of infected Filipinos overseas.

“DFA continues to keep track of the status of Filipinos abroad and work to safely repatriate more of our stranded nationals home as we keep on this fight against this pandemic,” it said in a statement.
