MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-seven more overseas Filipinos have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as the death toll nears 500, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Friday.
According to the DFA, the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad climbed to 6,128.
Of these cases, 2,796 remain under treatment while 2,849 have recovered or been discharged from the hospital.
There are so far 483 deaths reported with 11 new fatalities recorded in two countries in the Middle East.
In the Philippines, health authorities have so far confirmed 28,459 COVID-19 cases.
Of the number, 7,378 have recovered while 1,130 have died.
Globally, over 8.2 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 445,000 have died from the disease across the world.
