Globe provides connectivity for returning OFWs in Clark City
As part of its efforts to support government-designated quarantine facilities, Globe will provide free, reliable and fast internet access to the We Heal As One Center-National Government Administrative Center (NGAC) in New Clark City.
Globe will provide free internet connectivity for returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and to the nurses, doctors and other medical staff in the facility that was converted as a quarantine area. The internet access will enable them to remain connected with their loved ones and help the front liners gain much needed information from their colleagues outside the facility in cases of emergency.
“We acknowledge the essential need to provide mobile and internet services in areas for healing including designated quarantine centers especially for our OFWs. Globe is committed to assist fellow Filipinos in this time of great need,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe SVP for Corporate Communications.
In addition to internet access, Globe also provided assistance in setting up the Central Operations Center of Network of the NGAC.
“At the We Heal as One Centers, patients are given the utmost care. Aside from round-the-clock medical care, our facilities provide free meals and are equipped with fast internet connection, allowing the patients to talk to their loved ones. We want to make sure that while they are in these facilities, the only thing they would have to focus on is getting better,” said National Action Plan Against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon. Dizon is also the President and CEO of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
The NGAC in New Clark City was constructed as a back-up facility of national government agencies to ensure continuous operations in times of disasters or natural calamities.
It is part of the project’s Phase 1A, which also includes sports facilities used in the 2019 SouthEast Asian Games. One of the sports facilities—the Athletes’ Village—is also being currently used as a temporary quarantine facility.
New Clark City provides a secure and comfortable place for returning OFWs who would need treatment for COVID-19.
The NGAC has a 688-bed capacity with nurses on duty round the clock. It is a designated facility for COVID-positive patients with mild symptoms and those who are asymptomatic. The patients are immediately transferred to the Capas District Hospital, Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital or Ospital Ning Angeles or The Medical City if their symptoms worsen for urgent medical treatment.
Since it accepted its first batch of patients on May 1, 2020, the NGAC has successfully treated and taken care of 218 individuals. When patients are no longer symptomatic and are RT-PCR negative, they are discharged from the facility and advised to complete the 14-day quarantine at home.
Aside from the NGAC, Globe has donated millions to various hospitals and medical facilities all over Metro Manila and in key provinces of Luzon through its Globe Rewards Program. The company has also provided GoWiFi access, signal boosters, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), face shields, food packs and preloaded mobile devices with unli all call and text for 45 days to medical frontliners in selected hospitals and government designated quarantine facilities.
